Sustainability is a decisive factor when a client chooses an accommodation. In fact, 70% of travellers say they would be more likely to book an accommodation knowing it was eco friendly, whether they were looking for a sustainable stay or not.
What can you do to be more sustainable?
It’s easy to make sustainable changes. They don’t have to be costly or grand. We all have to begin somewhere, and you can even start today. At TravelEssence, we can offer you guidance when it comes to implementing your own sustainable initiatives.

Our Initiatives
Carbon offsetting and cookstoves in Bangladesh
Flying contributes to CO2 emissions. However, when our clients book with TravelEssence, we apply a carbon offsetting cost with our flight partners. TravelEssence is working towards becoming carbon neutral and minimising the impact of travel. As part of this initiative with Cathay Pacific, TravelEssence is also involved in a clean cookstove project which supplies those in Bangladesh with safer and more energy efficient cooking stoves, which will lead to less pollution and reduce premature deaths in the home.
Planting native trees
In partnership with Te Urewera Rainforest Restoration Charitable Trust, TravelEssence donates $25 toward planting native trees for each person that books with us. Thus far, we have contributed to planting over 13,000 to preserve an Indigenous rainforest.
Travelife Certification
TravelEssence has undergone an audit at our head office in the Netherlands to obtain a certificate for excellence in sustainability from Travelife. Travelife is an initiative that is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the travel and tourism industry. For the audit, Travelife looked at our sustainability practices, including how we manage our overall impact with our partners - especially around how we support you on your own path to sustainability.
We have been a sustainable company from the very beginning. To name a few of our common practices - we work with small-scale local suppliers, we encourage travel in low seasons, and we exclude campervans from our holidays. This value means we are a company that people want to work with, and a company people want to book their holidays with.
As a result of the audit, TravelEssence introduced even more changes to our offices, including:
Separating waste from recyclable products
Sourcing lunch from local suppliers
Reducing plastic
Changing water filters
Switching to eco-label cleaning products
Applying for solar panels
Switched to 100% renewable energy
