What nature-lover doesn’t dream of a journey to the other side of the world? After a quick search online, ‘A Journey Down Under’ caught our attention. An appointment was quickly arranged with Mrs Buschbeck. Our wish was, ‘Experience New Zealand, but not at a fast pace’.
For us, the most important factor was: ‘To experience and get to know the local Kiwis personally.’ And with this in mind, we hit the bull's eye with A Journey Down Under.
We also wished to stay longer here and there, in order to completely enjoy each location. Mrs Buschbeck created an itinerary for us that covered all of our wishes.
We flew to Auckland, with a stopover in Hong Kong. We collected our rental car with ease, from the city. Our accommodation and the rental car office were conveniently located nearby.
Our next stop was Rawena, approximately 150 kilometres north of Auckland, and on the way to Cape Reinga. From here, the Maori people release the souls of their deceased relatives. At our bed and breakfast, we were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Dorothy and John. In the evening, we could enjoy not only a good drop of red wine but we also received many local tips for the region.
We had the privilege to meet Joe, a lovely and natural Maori man. We collected mussels together by the sea. Before preparing and tasting these fresh delicacies. Joe introduced us to "Tane Mahuta" in the ancient forest. A great start to our excursions with local Kiwis.
All of our hosts welcomed us with a hearty "Kia Ora". We want to say a big thank you to the team at A Journey Down Under and Mrs Buschbeck.
Thank you Mrs Buschbeck, everything was great and perfectly organised. We will enthusiastically recommend you and the whole team of A Journey Down Under, to all people interested in New Zealand as a destination. Kia Ora.
P.S. Too bad that New Zealand is so far away from Europe.
Two globetrotters, Odette and Dieter
